While I agree with the gist of this important matter, I fail to see what the generation of my parents who got their education in Urdu medium did, besides losing East Pakistan, letting civil and military martial laws ruin the country, losing two wars, letting India usurp all our fresh water by making dams on every river, letting economy go so far down the hole that recession seems like a small word.
I am grateful for one thing my parents did. They sent me to an English medium school and yet, taught me the values Islam holds. They made me a smart, effective and successful Muslim.
Not everything can be blamed on these books. I’ve read them, and so have you. Problem is the ‘wannabe-ness’ that has left youth of Pakistan in the worst conundrum one could never ask for. We have no identity whatsoever.
And what is really funny is, the airports where green passport gets the most insult isn’t Heathrow or JFK or LAX. Its the good ol’ Allama Iqbal International!
So much for the self-respect we want to have.
But, back to the topic. Is there any decent university in Pakistan that is not intent on producing substandard graduates for nominal or sometimes, exorbitant prices?
Is there ANY academic institution except those run by people who got their inspiration and education from Europe/USA which has honor system? That expels students if they defy the honor system? That has zero tolerance for cheating?
We have become a substandard nation.
We are unwilling to improve ourselves as individuals and consequently, we as a nation, have plunged into an abyss of immoral and unethical and very often, criminal behavior.
We have decided that whatever we get is our right and whatever they don’t is their problem/fault.
Those young kids out there who snatch cell phones, bikes, cars and jewelry from other citizens, they are doing that because their parents didn’t have time or inclination to give them values to be proud of, the real values of Islam.
And the generation that says today’s children/youth doesn’t know how to behave, is morally bankrupt and whatnot, they did go to Urdu schools, learned the ‘akhlaqiyat’ you mentioned, read about Tariq bin Zayad and Saladin. They read Nasim Hijazi and Tariq Ismael Sagar.
What good is their education?
They are the ones placed on every important post these days. Hell, this decision to change course books was made by them, for crying out loud.
They lost a whole generation!
And they have turned this country into ruins.
So much for learning Muslim versus Western values and education.
I really have great admiration for you Sir but frankly, you picked the wrong end of the argument.
It’s a culture of nihilism that we have today.
I would have loved to get into an Ivy League school even if it meant I had to memorize all of Shakespeare or Dante or even Dickens simply because there are NO such universities where I live. I AM that smart, that motivated. So I would do my best to get my kid that chance and unfortunately, if he has to read these rubbish books just to have a fair to decent chance at an education I was denied then so be it!

Actually this is a “NOWHA” of our Educational System written by a true Pakitani Nationalist ” Orya Maqbool Jan”. Education is the only basic and strong TOOL to bind the Nation in one Ideology. Basically we are a Leader less Nation. We just have malicious rulers and a cunning and selfish fleet of beurocracy to support them. This joint venture have destroyed every sector of life of our beautiful country. This joint venture has their own vested interests. They are applying “NEW WORLD ORDER AGENDA” on our country. So to make the Nation ideologyless, aimless and to make the Nation “Bey-Hiyaa” they are adoping step in this regard. To adopt the English from class one is also their requirement. They are promoting “Uriani and Fashashi ” also on every level. I pray to God, may protect this nation and give us Leader like Quid-e-Azam.

تیسری بات یہ کہ تمام مشنری تعلیمی اداروں کو بند کیا جائے اور اگر ہمارے کرسچن دوستوں کو اپنی مذہبی تعلیم کے لئے ایسے اداروں کی ضرورت ہو تو ایسے اداروں میں صرف انہی کو داخلے کی اجازت ہو اور مسلمانوں کے ایسے تعلیمی اداروں میں داخلہ پر پابندی ہو نیز ایسے اداروں کے باہر واضح طور پر تحریر ہو کہ یہاں کرسچنز کو مذہبی تعلیم دی جاتی ہے اور دوسرے مذاہب کے طالب علموں پر ان اداروں میں داخلہ لینے پر پابندی عائد ہے.

آنے والے انتخابات میں انتخابی منشور کا حصّہ بنانے کے لئے کچھ تجاویز سیاسی رہنماؤں کے نام
1. ملک میں ہر سطح پر اردو کو نافذ کیا جائے
2. انگلش کی لازمی حیثیت کو ختم کیا جائے
3. اعلیٰ تعلیم صرف اور صرف اردو میں دی جائے
4. مقابلے کے تمام امتحان اور انٹرویو صرف اردو میں لئے جائیں
5 موجودہ ڈویژنز (divisions) کو صوبے کا درجہ دیا جائے.
6. پٹرول کی قیمت عالمی مارکیٹ سے منسلک کی جائے
7 . بجلی کی پیداوار کے لئے بین الاقوامی کمپنیوں کو دعوت دی جائے اور ان کو پیداوار، تقسیم اور بلوں کی وصولی کا اختیار دیا جائے. تاہم قیمتوں کا تعین حکومت پاکستان کی مشاورت سے کیا جائے.
8. کالا باغ ڈیم اور پن بجلی کے دوسرے منصوبوں کی منصوبہ سازی کر کے ان پر فوری عمل درامد کا آغاز کیا جائے.
9 . جن محکموں کو 1971 میں قومی تحویل میں لیا گیا تھا، انھیں ان کے مالکوں کو واپس کیا جائے. بیمار صنعتوں کے لئے بلا سود قرضے فراہم کر کے انھیں پھر سے زندہ ہونے میں مدد دی جائے.
10. ملک بھر میں یونی ورسٹیز کا جال بچھا دیا جائے. بیرون ملک تعلیم حاصل کرنے اور ہنر مند افراد کے باہر جانے پر پابندی لگا دی جائے، اس طرح جوہر قابل کو ملک کے اندر ہی کھپایا جائے.
11 دنیا بھر سے بہترین ماہرین تعلیم کو پاکستان میں لایا جائے اور اس سلسلے میں پاکستانیوں کو ترجیح دی جائے. اسی طرح یونیورسٹیزکو جدید ترین آلات اور ساز و سامان سے لیس کیا جائے اور ان کو بین الا قوامی معیار کے تعلیمی ادارے بنانے کو ترجیح دی جائے.
12. ہر صوبے میں ایک دارالترجمہ قایم کیا جائے جہاں دنیا بھر کی زبانوں کے ماہرین موجود ہوں جو کہ دنیا بھر میں کسی بھی زبان میں چھپنے والی کتاب کا 24 گھنٹوںمیں معیاری ترجمہ کر کے اسے بازار میں فروخت کے لئے پیش کر سکیں.
13. بیرون ملک سے تعلیم یافتہ اور ہنر مند پاکستانیوں کو پاکستان لا کر روزگار کے بہتر مواقع دے جائیں.
14 . پاکستان کی معیشت کو ڈالر کے شکنجے سے آزاد کیا جائے
. ان نکات پر عمل درامد کرنے پر غور و فکر کریں، اگر پاکستان کو ترقی یافتہ ملکوں کی صف میں شامل کرنا ہے تو ہمیں اپنی سوچ کے انداز کو بدلنا ہو گا اور ان طریقوں پر عمل کرنا ہو گا جو ہمیں اپنی منزل تک لے جا سکیں ، بصورت دیگر بھٹکنے کا عمل تو 64 سال سے جاری ہے ہی .
